Volume 5 Issue 1 January 2008 Dear Friends, Here is the first VEYO News Bulletin of this year. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to keep our dispatches shorter and send them out more regularly. So I am hoping to send it once a month. Please use any information below as you see fit for your groups, schools and parishes and please let me know if you have any suggestions or questions for VEYO. A second New year’s resolution is to begin our regular office meetings again, which we have not been able to do due to the busy schedule at the new House of Discernment with its five residents. Now that their schedule is all worked out and with an office staff of three, VEYO can start up something new and do more. The Youth Office will meet Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00pm, the Evangelization Office will meet on Monday, January 21st at 7:00pm, and the Vocations Office will meet on Wednesday, January 23rd at 7:00pm. All meetings will be held at the Chancery Office at 350 Hunter Street. Please come and find out what you can do to help our mission in the Diocese. As for our mission over the Christmas holidays, the first weekend of the New Year was a busy one as over 30 young people attended the 2008 John Paul II Retreat. Young people from across the Diocese and beyond (including Montreal) came together to learn about their Catholic faith. Fr. Tom Lynch, pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in Douro and professor at St. Augustine’s Seminary, gave nine lectures on bioethics and impressed us all with his expertise and eloquence. The talks were incredibly informative and encouraged lots thought, reflection and discussion. Many thanks to those who helped to make the retreat as successful as it was. Preparations are also underway for this year’s outdoor Way of the Cross on Good Friday, March 21st. For the past three years the youth of the Diocese have been great witnesses to the city of Peterborough and beyond making the Passion of Jesus come alive through their participation in the Way of the Cross. Each year hundreds of people we are moved by the performance of our young people. On Wednesday, January 16th, a meeting will be held for all who are interested in being a part of this year’s Way of the Cross. The meeting will be at 4pm at the VEYO Centre. If you are interested and cannot attend please contact the Office. VOCATIONS
