3rd Diocesan Day of Renewal |
||||
“A Celebration of Healing through the Eucharist” Healing is something we all need on so many levels in our lives, personal and communal, spiritual, physical and emotional. Christ, the divine physician, is the one who offers it to us, especially in and through the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist. While the Eucharist is the most powerful instrument of change, conversion and growth, we often find ourselves strangely untouched by its potential and unmoved by its beauty. The 3rd Diocesan Day of Renewal is designed to deepen our understanding of the Eucharist and fill us with its healing grace. Scheduled to take place on Saturday Nov. 18th at Sacred Heart Church in downtown Peterborough, the Day is intended as a mini-retreat for the whole diocesan family on a topic of vital importance for each of us, for our parishes and for the Diocese as a whole. Since preparations have begun for the International Eucharistic Congress, which will be held in Quebec City in June of 2008 and attended by Pope Benedict XVI together with tens of thousands of faithful from across the globe, it is only fitting that our Diocesan Day of Renewal should also focus on the Mystery of the Eucharist. This year’s event will feature guest speaker Father Lou Cerulli from Montreal who will reflect, in two brief talks, on the ‘Importance of the Eucharist’ and on ‘Healing through the Eucharist’. The day will also include Adoration, Individual Blessings and Prayers for Healing as well as Celebration of Holy Mass and brief explanations on the Liturgy. A separate Youth Track will be offered with special guest speaker David Thomas from Madonna House, witness talks and information sessions on how youth can evangelize in today’s culture. The Youth Track will continue with WYD Celebrations until Sunday lunch time. There will be lots of great music and lots of time for socializing and discussion for all who attend. Registration will begin well before 9:30am at Sacred Heart Church. The fee is a mere $10.00 for the adult track to help with the expenses for the day. There will also be a draw for a number of religious articles. While refreshments will be provided, registrants are asked to bring a “brown bag lunch” for the day. It is easy for us to take things and people for granted and our faith is no exception. Holy Mass and the Blessed Eucharist are supposed to be the ‘source and summit of all Christian life’ (Vatican Council II). Let us come together to discover why the Eucharist is, indeed, the central mystery of our faith and how it can heal and renew our lives.
