About Father Norbert

Since some of you have asked:

I was born and raised near Cologne in Germany and grew up in a family of five children. My parents tried their very best to make the Catholic faith an important part of my life. During the years of my upbringing I became more and more involved in the life of my home parish and even came to see, from time to time, a very personal and deeply moving side to my faith, which I am only now beginning to understand. Even though I was not one of those remarkable people who experienced a call to the priesthood during childhood, I cannot but marvel at the mysterious ways God has guided and directed me over the years, sometimes, I must admit, with a great deal of resistance on my part. The end of high school was the beginning of a spiritual quest which continued through years of study at different universities in a number of different countries. I finally joined the Diocese of Peterborough as a seminarian, studied theology in Rome and was ordained on the Feast of St. Joseph in 1989. After being assigned as associate parish priest at St. Therese Church in Courtice and at the Cathedral Parish in Peterborough, I became parish priest of St. Therese's in Courtice in 1995. I left there in 2002 for a brief period of work in Rome and returned in early 2004 to take up my new position at the Office for Vocations, Evangelization and Youth.

Here are some of my favourite things, second to my faith, of course:

  • favourite hobbies: music, reading, internet and rollercoasters
  • favourite movie: ‘Lord of the Rings' and 'Star Trek: Generations'
  • favourite song: ‘Ode to Joy' and 'Thank you for the music'
  • favourite sports: soccer and swimming
  • favourite quote: ‘Nothing is small in the eyes of God'
  • favourite holiday: Easter and my birthday
  • favourite food: yeast dumplings and pasta
  • favourite book: ‘The Clowns of God'
  • favourite attribute: my sense of humour
  • favourite person I want to meet: Jesus, really, and I meet him every day.

I hope you enjoy your visit to our site and, if there is anything I can help you with, please let me know.

God bless,

Father Norbert.
