Anyone who has ever joined us for an event or meeting knows: We at VEYO can have fun doing what we are doing; we actually enjoy it. But on Saturday February 4th we had our first ‘official’ VEYO Appreciation Party. It was about time! After two years of hard and sometimes challenging work the good volunteers at the three offices needed a bit of a break, an occasion to socialize, meet other volunteers and sing! Yes, sing! Karaoke was part of the entertainment for the evening. Nothing serious! Just simple fun and a whole lot of it! Pretty much everybody got up, mostly in groups, to sing their favorite songs, anything from country to hip-hop. So, you can imagine the age range of the people who came. We had about 75 people come from as far away as Norwoord, Wooler, Bowmanville and Ajax to join us for the party braving bad-weather predictions for later that night. The evening started with Mass at 5 pm at St. Anne’s Church, whose people and clergy had over the last two years repeatedly welcomed VEYO on many occasions. There was more than enough food at the pot-luck dinner which followed. We could have easily fed double the number of people, especially with the 10 party-size pizzas the bishop brought. Too bad we couldn’t keep any of it for those VEYO friends and volunteers who were not able to come, and there is a good number who did not make it, especially from the northern parts of the Diocese. Suffice it to say, the party was fun enough to make us all look forward to the next one. And indeed, there shall be another one before long! While the work VEYO volunteers have been doing and will continue to do is done first and foremost for the greater glory of God and for the salvation of souls, it was only fair to say a little ‘thank you’ to all those who have given much of their time and talents over the last two years to make VEYO’s mission in our Diocese a great success.bye
