GOOD FRIDAY – A DAY TO REMEMBER … in more ways than one! PRACTICES :WAY OF THE CROSS Peterborough |

|||||
Practices for Way of the Cross 2006 For over two months over 30 young people met regularly, at least once a week, to practice for the ‘Way of the Cross’ on Good Friday April 14th, 2006. In Church halls or on sidewalks we went through the 14 stations or scenes and rehearsed the actions and lines again and again and again until we found the best and most effective way to re-enact the events of the passion of our Savior. The first number of practices, actually most of them were challenging enough until we got closer to Good Friday. It took a while for people to get into their roles and sort out what they were about; what part these individuals played in the actual passion and how best to present it and bring it together into one brief scene. Plus, there were plenty of moments when it was rather difficult to remain serious: giddiness, mishaps and going a bit overboard - we won’t mention any names, but some soldiers come to mind – all was part of the experience. But through it all, everybody was aware it was a deeply spiritual event we were trying to get ready for and we accompanied our sessions with prayers; those said before our practices, those said by countless people around the Diocese to help us out and those said by the actors in private, I am sure. Twice we went down to Courtice for practices where the 300 lbs cross was made and kept after last year’s ‘Way of the Cross’. The cold temperatures outside were more than made up for by the hospitality we received from the good people down there who went out of their way to make sure things came together for us. Here are some impressions … and, as you can see, fun we had too. Lastly, there was a large number of people who helped organize this year’s ‘Way of the Cross’ - too many to mention in fact – and many of them came from other Christian denominations and communities around the city of Peterborough, which gave this year’s event a truly united Christian spirit. God has his ways to bring us together! Many thanks to all who made it possible. |
