CATHOLIC COUNCIL of TRENT

  Mission Statement

The Catholic Council of Trent is a university-wide organization that supports and unifies the Catholic community at Trent. We are students who wish to live our Catholic faith, know more about it and share it with one another. We wish to grow in faith through Mass and prayer; come to a greater understanding of it through lectures, study and discussions; show its beauty and relevance by living it ever better and enter into dialogue with other Christians and students of other faiths and beliefs. The Catholic Council of Trent provides opportunities to build friendships and offers support to anyone who needs it. We wish to make our faith visible and try to reach out to the Peterborough community through social justice work and service.

  Spiritual growth

The CCofT is pleased to have Holy Mass celebrated regularly on Trent campus. Mass is held at the LEC Pit (which isn’t as bad as it sounds) once a month or more often, usually on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. After Mass there is also time for socializing, planning ahead or discussion on any topic relevant to students or on basically any other issue that may be brought up.

The CCofT is also offering a ride service for students on campus to attend Mass in the city on any other Sunday. For times, contact CCofT.

As well, there are weekly meetings on campus, usually around lunch time, to read and reflect on sacred scripture. Called by what is traditionally known as ‘lectio divina’ these gatherings invite students to discover for each individually the depth and beauty of the Word of God. To find out times and places, contact the CCofT.

  Roundtable Discussions

One of the CCofT events in past years was a “roundtable” discussion. The event brought together students to discuss spiritual topics of interest such as apostolic succession, the Vatican, sacraments and spiritual living, social justice and more. The discussion was opened by one of the students with a brief presentation on the topic chosen, after which there was usually a rather lively and thought-provoking discussion. The Catechism of the Church and other Church teachings made sure that the discussion remained focused. This is mainly a chance to find out more about the Catholic faith by asking particular questions that perhaps wouldn’t be answered otherwise. Specific dates and times TBA. Bring a friend (or two!).

 CCofT Socials

CCofT members and friends have always enjoyed getting together to socialize. Film nights, potlucks, camping trips and other occasions bring together the council members and friends to build friendships and support one another.
