Morning Watch

Morning Watch – All Night Adoration

“Adoration is essentially an embrace with Jesus in which I say to Him:I am yours,
and I ask you, please stay with me always.”  - Pope Benedict XVI

History of Morning Watch in our Diocese

At World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto, Pope John Paul II called upon the youth of the world to “in the heart of night be the watchers of the morn” and thus Morning Watch began.

Morning WatchAs an initiative of the young people of the Diocese of Peterborough, the Youth Office began Morning Watch inviting those young and old to come and spend time in the company of our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament.

Since its inception on the Feast of Corpus Christi in 2005, Morning Watch has been held right across the diocese visiting parishes in Peterborough, Douro, Cobourg, Trout Creek, Bracebridge, Millbrook, Kirkfield, Parry Sound, Fenelon Falls, Lakefield, Lindsay, Norwood, Courtice, and many more. Morning Watch is continuing to travel to parishes again this year in the hope of bringing together young and old together for a youthful time of worship.

Throughout the night youth, joined by parishioners of the hosting and neighbouring parishes, keep a vigil of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament with music, Scriptural readings and periods of silence. Morning Watch finds its conclusion and fulfillment in the celebration of the Parish Sunday Mass.

On behalf of all of the young people who have joined us throughout the night for Morning Watch events across the diocese we wish to extend our many thanks to all of the pastors and parishioners for graciously welcoming us to their parish.
