At World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto, Pope John Paul II called upon the youth of the world to “in the heart of night be the watchers of the morn” and thus Morning Watch began. An initiative of the young people of the Diocese of Peterborough, Morning Watch invites those young and old to come and spend time in the company of our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament.
Since its inception on the Feast of Corpus Christi in 2005, Morning Watch has been held over 20 times in the diocese. Having already visited parishes in Peterborough, Douro, Cobourg, Trout Creek, Bracebridge, Millbrook and Parry Sound, Morning Watch will continue this year traveling to 10 more parishes.
Throughout the night youth, joined by parishioners of the hosting and neighboring parishes, keep a vigil of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament with music, Scriptural readings and periods of silence. Morning Watch finds its conclusion and fulfillment in the celebration of the Parish Sunday Mass.
On behalf of all of the young people who have joined us throughout the night for Morning Watch events across the diocese we wish to extend our many thanks to all of the pastors and parishioners for graciously welcoming us to their parish.
