What is SONfest?

SONfest '04 is the first Diocesan Youth Day for the Peterborough Diocese and will take place August 28th and 29th on the Grounds of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Otonabee, on the outskirts of the City of Peterborough.  It is modelled on similar conferences in other Dioceses like Toronto, Hamilton and Cornwall with speakers, music, Mass, prayer sessions, question and answer periods and much more. SONfest will be an annual youth festival in the Diocese which will be celebrated each year in a different part of this vast Diocese.

Come experience your faith in an exciting new way! Meet other youth just like you! SONfest will try to recapture the spirit of past World Youth Days and let people know that this spirit can be alive anytime, all the time. Have you considerfed attending WYD in Germany in 2005? This event will kick off our journey!!!

SONfest '04 will feature speakers such as Mark Alfano, Fr. Tom Lynch, Fr. William Slattrey, members of YEO (Youth Evangelizing Others), and other faith-filled motivating presenters. Different bands and individuals from around the diocese and beyond will provide music for the liturgies and prayer sessions as well as for the talent show and entertainment. Bishop De Angelis will lead a prayer service on Saturday afternoon, blessing the Diocesan Youth Day Cross, and will celebrate Holy Mass on Sunday at noon.

SONfest is open to anyone who wishes to come and be part it; the conferences and presentations are geared to youth and young adults ages 14 to 30. It starts at about noon on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday afternoon at about 4PM. Registration fee is $20 and covers everything from meals to programs, except for whatever you need for an overnight camp-out.
