What is SONfest ?

SONfest 2006 is the third annual Peterborough Catholic Diocese Youth Festival and has quickly become known as the most important summer youth festival for our Diocese. Reflecting the World Youth Day experience SONfest is the biggest Catholic Youth Festival in the area! Join other youth just like you and experience your faith in a fun and exciting new way.

Who is organizing this?

This weekend is an initiative of the Youth Office - part of  VEYO (Vocation, Evangelization and Youth Office) - of the Peterborough Catholic Diocese and its many volunteers!

Where is it being held?

This year SONfest is being hosted by St. Martin’s Parish in Ennismore,   (a 10 minute drive north of the City of Peterborough Ontario)

What’s the theme?

This year’s theme was selected by Pope Benedict XVI.

What should I bring?

  • Bring a friend or make one there
  • An open heart to experience you faith in a new way
  • Camping gear: tent, sleeping bag, foam or air mattress, pillow
  • Bug spray and sun screen
  • Soap face cloth, towel
  • Musical instruments are welcome
  • Comfortable clothing for 2 days
  • Catholic swim wear (mother approved!)
  • Sleepwear
  • Rain gear (ignore the forecast)
  • Hat for the sun - water bottle
  • Banner from your parish or youth group
  • Board games, soccer balls, footballs etc

Please don't bring:

  • Pets - no matter how cute please leave at home
  • Electronic games, disc players, mp3 players, radios, etc.
  • Try and leave your cell phone, pager, laptops and all other forms of communication at home.  After all, we are here to Hear His Word. In the event of an emergency, there is a phone

What should I expect?

Registration starts Friday afternoon, so get your tent up and get ready to camp out and join in the food and fun events! Meet dynamic speaker Chris Padgett and great bands!

Saturday, will be full of events, games, music, guest speakers, faith raisers, worship and a talent show. 

On Sunday we will have Mass with Bishop De Angelis and our festivities will wrap up at 3 pm.

All meals are supplied for participants.

Expect to have fun!  Expect to be fed! 

Expect to learn, worship and have a blast celebrating our Catholic faith!

Guest Speaker for SONfest ‘06

Chris Padgett is a gifted songwriter, speaker and musician. He is well know as the lead singer of the popular Christian Rock band Scarecrow & Tinman, which he’s led since their conception eight years ago.

Chris hold a B.A. in English from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing a M. A. in theology & Christian ministry from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in eastern Ohio.  He speaks internationally to young people, teens and adults across denominational lines, and writes and performs as a professional Christian musician.  He has tow collections of music as a solo artist: Follow and his latest release, Golden.

Friday, July 28th:

 2:00 pm                       Arrival, tent set-up and registration
 
 4:00 pm                       Dinner and social time

 6:00 pm                       Welcome and opening with icebreakers and music

 7:00 pm                       1st talk by guest speaker Chris Padgett

 8:00 pm                       Small group discussion (15 people per group)

 8:30 pm                       Youth Cross procession and candle light service

10:00 pm                      Bonfire, camp singing / concert in hall or on stage  

                                     Adoration available through the night

 

Saturday, July 29th:

 7:30 am                       Morning Prayer (outside)
 
 7:50 am                       Breakfast

 9:00 am                       Rosary with music (in Church)

 9:30 am                       Mass (in Church)   

10:30 am                      Games and social time

11:00 am                      Vocation Panel and Q & A

12:30 pm                      Lunch (diocesan groups put on display until after dinner)
