What is SONfest ?

SONfest 2007 is the forth annual Catholic Youth Festival for the Diocese of Peterborough and one of the biggest of its kind in the area. Modeled after World Youth Days this smaller local Youth festival reflects the World youth Day experience with exciting guest speakers, fun activities, music, camping, and prayer and just as importantly building fellowship as Catholic youth. Join other youth like you and experience your faith in a fun and exciting new way.

Who is organizing this?

This weekend is an initiative of the Youth Office - part of  VEYO (Vocation, Evangelization and Youth Office) - of the Peterborough Catholic Diocese and its many volunteers!

Who is SONFest for?

SONfest is for youth 14 years and older.

Where is it being held?

This year SONfest is being hosted in Bracebridge ON. at St. Dominics's High School.

How do I get there?

There will be buses to take people from the Lakeshore and Peterborough areas. Don't forget to book your spot on the bus !

What’s the theme?

The theme chosen by Pope Benedict XVI is:

What should I bring?

• Bring a friend or make one there
• An open heart to experience you faith in a new way
• Camping gear: tent, sleeping bag, foam or air mattress, pillow (separate male/female sleeping areas)
• Bug spray and sun screen
• Soap face cloth, towel
• Musical instruments are welcome
• Comfortable clothing for 2 days & swim wear
• Rain gear (ignore the forecast)
• Banner from your parish or youth group
• Board games, soccer balls, footballs etc

Please don't bring:

• Pets - no matter how cute please leave at home
• Electronic games, I pods, mp3 players, radios, etc.
• Try and leave your cell phone, pager, laptops and all other forms of communication at home.  After all, we are here to Hear His Word. In the event of an emergency, there is a phone

What should I expect?

SONfest begins Friday afternoon, so get your tent up and get ready to camp out and join in the food and fun events! Meet dynamic speaker Chris Padgett and hear great music!

Saturday, will be full of events, games, music, guest speakers, faith raisers, worship and a talent show. 

On Sunday at 1 pm we will conclude our festivities with a Mass with Bishop De Angelis.

All meals are supplied for participants.

Expect to have fun!  Expect to be fed! 

Expect to learn, worship and have a blast celebrating our Catholic faith!

Returning Guest Speaker for SONfest ‘07

Chris Padgett is a gifted songwriter, speaker and musician. He is well know as the lead singer of the popular Christian Rock band Scarecrow & Tinman, which he’s led since their conception eight years ago.

Chris hold a B.A. in English from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing a M. A. in theology & Christian ministry from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in eastern Ohio.  He speaks internationally to young people, teens and adults across denominational lines, and writes and performs as a professional Christian musician.  He has tow collections of music as a solo artist: Follow and his latest release, Golden.
