(PETERBOROUGH, ON) - The Catholic Diocese of Peterborough is hosting a Catholic Youth Festival titled SONfest’08, at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, in Lindsay, Ontario, August 15th to 17th, 2008. A committee from St. Mary’s Parish in Lindsay is currently planning this popular event which takes place in a different part of the diocese every year, drawing youth and young adults ages 14 to 25 from across Ontario and beyond. Indeed, people of all ages and faiths are welcome.
SONfest’08 is the fifth annual Catholic Youth Festival for the Diocese of Peterborough and the biggest of its kind in the area. Modeled after World Youth Days this smaller local youth festival reflects the World Youth Day experience with exciting guest speakers, fun activities, and lots of music, camping, and prayer and just as importantly building fellowship.
This three-day weekend is an initiative of the Youth Office - part of VEYO (Vocation, Evangelization and Youth Office) - of the Peterborough Catholic Diocese and its many volunteers. Parishes, community groups and individuals in Lindsay and surrounding area have been working hard to prepare for SONfest.
This year, SONfest’08 shares its theme with World Youth Day in Sydney Australia and was chosen by Pope Benedict XVI. It is “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witness.” Acts 1:8
This year participants can enjoy a variety of dynamic speakers, live music, as well they can visit our adoration area, meet wonderful people, eat delicious food, join the talent show, win some prizes and hear great music!
SONfest begins Friday afternoon with some introductory activities. On Saturday, the day will be full of events, games, music, guest speakers, faith raisers, worship and a talent show. On Sunday we will conclude our festivities with Mass with Bishop De Angelis.
Everyone is invited to attend.
