GOOD FRIDAY – A DAY TO REMEMBER … in more ways than one! YOUTH WAY OF THE CROSS Peterborough |

| On Good Friday April 14th, 2006, the residents of Peterborough had the unique opportunity to see a Youth ‘Way of the Cross’ in their city streets, organized by the Catholic Youth Office of the Diocese. Youth and young adults engaged in an outdoor performance which re-enacted the 14 Stations of the ‘Way of the Cross’ on one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar. The ‘Way of the Cross’ started with a prayer service at 10 am in a packed St. Peter-in-Chains Cathedral followed by the re-enactment of the first two stations outside in front of this historic Church building. The procession then traveled west on Hunter Street through downtown Peterborough to East City and ended in front of Immaculate Conception Church. On each intersection one more scene was presented with the last four stations (Jesus’ crucifixion, death and burial) observed in front of Immaculate Conception Church. With the escort of City Police and the assistance of many volunteers the procession ran as smoothly as it did in 2005. Last year over 25 youth and young adults participated as actors in the event with over 250 in attendance in what has been described as one of the most moving events in the history of the Catholic Diocese. This year, youth from several other denominations came forward to participate in various ways in the 2006 performance as musicians, readers or actors making it a truly a Christian community event. Following the ‘Way of the Cross’, in observance of Lent, a modest lunch was served in the hall of Immaculate Conception Church in exchange for a donation of non-perishable food items to be distributed to the needy through the good services of the St. Vincent-de-Paul Society. “The Youth ‘Way of the Cross’ is truly a very exciting project for the Youth Office and the great thing about it is that it was young people themselves who came up with the idea. They deserve our support, prayers and admiration for what they are trying to do and for being willing to show their faith in such a visible and public manner,” states Fr. Norbert Glasmacher, Director of the Youth Office (part of VEYO). About twice as many people joined 35 youth actors this past Good Friday, April 14th, to commemorate the Passion of Our Lord. Our gratitude goes to all those who made this event possible through their prayers, support and technical assistance.
